Aircraft Cabin Interior Carpeting & Upholstery

It is designed for  participants/technicians from for beginner to intermediate technician who want to have a better understanding and skills into Aircraft Cabin Interior Upholstery, Sewing patterns, Pattern cutting of cabin carpets & performing Surging-Binding cabin interior carpets, and Box stitching of webbing and belts and lock patterns.

Advised pre-requisites

Some basic OEM Interior aircraft knowledge is an advised prerequisite for this aircraft Interior course in preparation and repairing/replacing cabin Interior parts.


Personnel of technical departments having little to non or basic experience in maintenance and repair of Cabin interior parts and wanting to gain a better understanding of cabin interior part repair and the materials and processes such as pattern making, cutting carpeting , Sewing patterns, Surging-Binding cabin carpets, Box stitching of webbing and belts and lock patterns.

Number of participants

Minimum required 4 and Maximum 10 per course*.

* Courses will be confirmed as running by EFC as soon as sufficient applications are received!


To provide participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical Hands-On skills necessary to carry out basic fabrication and repair.

At the end of the course the participants:

  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Must be attentive to details
  • Can work according to Safety regulations and recognize hazardous situations & materials
  • Can read, understand and work with the OEM manuals for Interior parts
  • Knows material properties and is familiar with “Handling & Storage” of these materials
  • Knows how to work with Aircraft cabin interior materials like nylon  carpets cabin seat upholstery
  • Can plan the work and work as planned
  • Can find steps of repair to be taken in the Aircraft type related OEM manuals for interior parts

  • Can apply Tedlar with contact adhesive and heat gun
  • Can apply a surging-binding in cabin carpeting with positive and negative curves
  • Can apply box stitches and patterns in belts
  • Can aply templates and sewing of pattern made covers

Course content theory (Level 1,2)

  • Health and Safety (MSDS)
  • Composite interior repair of laminates and honeycomb sandwich panel with thin skins
  • Materials:  Fundamentals of fabrication carpeting, carpet types and weave styles and other interior  materials
  • Introduction and use  of OEM manuals per Aircraft type for cabin Interior  parts repair
  • Pattern making,
  • Upholstery of interior parts & cutting pattern making
  • Surging & Binding carpeting
  • Maters used
  • Sewing machine types explained

Course outline

  • Participants will be intensively monitored while fabricating reinforced fiber laminates from sandwich parts Glass Fiber prep-preg and dry fiber material using various ply lay-up directions. Lay-Up of vacuum materials and perform vacuum leak checking and curing.
    • Can make templates for use of cutting carpeting
    • Can make patterns for interior parts used as covers
    • Can apply Tedlar with contact adhesive and heat gun
    • Can cut carpeting and apply surging and binding by sewing on edges
    • Repair Cargo nets using Box stitching
    • Stitching various upholstery materials with stitching following patterns and lock patterns


  • Multiple choice questions from each of the teachings Level 2-3
  • Successful completion is 75% correct answers
  • The examination will be closed book and  can be conducted by a Part 147 approved Examiner
    on request
  • The practical mark will be the average of all marks gained from the practical exercises
    Assessment activities are built into our courses, to give feedback on the achievement and personal potential and kept a record in a personal student logbook.
  • All grades will be recorded in the participant individual training records and kept on record at EFC for unlimited time (compliant with Reference EASA Commission Regulation (EU) No 1321/2014)
  • A certificate of accomplishment is handed out to each participant with a course content document.

This currency competence assessment can be hold 'On-Site' at your company under certain conditions.
